In teacher prep programs, we are often taught to use Bloom' Taxonomy to target the cognitive level students are expected to show. But what about the thinking? When students are required to complete a task, what mental processing is required? In this session, we will discuss Norman Webb's Depth of Knowledge and how it can help us understand more about how students process in the classroom.
How can we leverage instructional strategies to develop language among emergent bilingual students while fostering a learning environment where they can thrive academically?
We’ll explore an integrated approach that bridges language and literacy through intentional content delivery. Together, we’ll examine essential elements such as second language acquisition, diversified support, and culturally and linguistically sustaining practices and tools that support the linguistic, cognitive, and affective needs of bilingual learners. By deepening students’ understanding of texts, developing their written expression, and honing their unique abilities to pull from multiple languages, we empower them to reach their full potential.
The session will include: · engaging lead4ward strategies and tools that integrate authentic reading and reflective writing experiences and connect language and literacy through listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking · ways to navigate the complexities of language development and cultivate an inclusive learning environment · scaffolds that provide access to grade-level curriculum · connections across languages for effective second language acquisition
Through the power of language development, we can unlock the incredible strengths that emergent bilinguals hold and help students succeed in every aspect of their lives!

Learn how data reported in the Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance, or PLAAFPs, drives IEP goal development. This training will focus on how to write individualized goals for your students based on their data and how to put systems in place in your classroom to easily track goal progress.
If you want to work on writing actual goals for your upcoming ARDs, please have PLAAFPs prepared so that the focus can be on writing goals and not PLAAFP development. If you do not have any upcoming summer ARDS, find a PLAAFP and goals that you would like to use and review using the class learning. The overall objective is to understand the role goals play and how to work smarter not harder when having to report progress each nine weeks.
Please bring your district device fully changed and ready to work:-)
